The Question is, not why should, but why don't, Transport Providers have Wheelchair and Passenger Restraint Equipment professionally serviced tested and maintained. Many organisations provide transport, as part of their services for some of the most vulnerable members in their communities, but do not necessarily know whether the equipment within the vehicle remains serviceable and are being applied in the correct manor. If an organisation operates 25 adapted vehicles, carrying on average 2
wheelchair users to and from a Centre. If regular maintenance is not carried out and staff are not trained in the appropriate application of the equipment, with each journey there exists a significant risk to person’s dependant on the safety equipment in the event of an accident. Puwertec have identified that Wheelchair and Passenger Restraints are not formally inspected as per the requirement under Health and Safety Law. The equipment is not covered as part of an MOT due to the lack of specialist knowledge and appropriately trained examiners. |
